“When you listen to each patient’s story – you get to know just how important their journey has been. “

Meet Ken Dembny

I was born in Fort Atkinson and spent most of my childhood and teenage years in Delavan, Wisconsin. From a young age I enjoyed drawing and crafting, and then later building and painting model airplanes. I swam competitively through high school, and also liked bicycling. During my junior year of high school, I lived a wonderful and educational year in Santos, Brasil as an American Field Service (AFS) foreign exchange student. I really enjoyed the University of Wisconsin, and decided to attend medical school there as well when it seemed like I needed something more than biochemistry degree.  Although I always enjoyed baking as a kid, my real interest in cooking didn’t develop until I was in medical school, and it has continued ever since. I was a surgical resident at the Medical College of Wisconsin, and got to spend six months of that time working at a hospital in Warwick, England. I did my plastic surgery fellowship at The Ohio State University in Columbus. I then moved back to Wisconsin because of this wonderful job opportunity, and to be closer to family.

I have been blessed with three wonderful and talented children.  They remain very active and I am always amazed at how much they can cram into one day’s time.

Klaire has always been an independent and strong-willed girl with a friendly personality.  She is constantly on the go.  Klaire stays busy with swimming, school activities, babysitting, and volunteer work, but most of all she really enjoys getting together with her friends. Klaire has a crafty and creative side, and you will often find her in the kitchen baking cookies. She has grown-up fast, and will be graduating high school this spring.

Dell has always been an active “boy” and loves sports.  While growing up he has played soccer, baseball, basketball, and was a very good swimmer for several years when he was younger.  Currently his primary focus is soccer and baseball and he continues to succeeded in both. Like his dad, Dell is a big Packers fan, and we have been fortunate enough to attend a few games to cheer them on.  Dell enjoys hanging out with his best friend, biking around the neighborhood, playing video games, cheering for Barcelona, and watching sports on TV. Dell started high school this year and is becoming quite a young man.

Kamryn is a gentle, loving, and happy girl. She really enjoys swimming, and continues to excel year after year. She has also played soccer and ran track and cross country. Kamryn admires, and enjoys learning from, her brother and sister. Kamryn likes helping dad in the kitchen with cooking and baking. Kamryn, like her older sister, has a large and diverse  group of friends. She is very social with her friends, their activities, and sleepovers. Kamryn will graduate the eighth grade this coming spring.

There are just too many to choose from! I enjoy everything from pizza and ice cream, to a big bite of a fresh picked tomato, to succulent BBQ ribs and pulled pork sandwiches, to a wine with so much fruit you can chew it or the complexity of a Sonoma Coast pinot noir, to morel mushrooms, to whatever is on the menu at my next dinner party.

Too difficult to chose just one. Here are a few memorable ones. In Milwaukee some of my favorite restaurants have included Sanford, Ristorante Bartolotta, Hinterland, Braise, and Blues Egg! I have had other great meals at Alinea (Chicago), Paul Bartolotta’s Ristorante de Mar (Las Vegas), Emeril’s (New Orleans), Jean-Georges (New York City), Zafferano (London), and The Lygon Arms (Broadway, UK). The best tiramisu is served at Osteria del Mundo (Milwaukee); the best crème brûlée is at Cap City Diner (Columbus, OH); the best warm flourless chocolate cake is created at Sanford; the best banana cream pie with caramel can be found at Emeril’s; the best lemon olive oil cake at Paul Bartolotta’s Ristorante de Mar.

Anyone who has reached the summit of Mt. Everest

Any place warm to escape Wisconsin winters.

Some standouts include most Hosta, Hydrangea Macrophylla (especially blue), Japanese Anemone, Lingularia Britt Marie Crawford, Hydrangea Quercifolia (especially the dark red leaf in the fall), Miscanthus purpurascens, and Peonies.

Don’t take your life for granted. Always do the best you can. Be happy and enjoy. Be nice to others.

I think I make pretty good lasgna and BBQ ribs.
